Edmonton South Animal Hospital is honored to treat your beloved companion and we pledge to provide nothing but the finest care throughout every phase of your pet’s life. Whether routine care or emergency services, our veterinarians give quality care that is unmatched. Our services include:
When your pet is ill or injured, you need to know that competent veterinary medical care is a phone call away. When an emergency strikes during normal business hours, give us a quick call to let us know you are on your way.
At the top of the list of routine care is the wellness exam. When your pet is seen annually at our veterinary, we are able to monitor his or her overall health and deal with any problems quickly. Our routine services also include dental exams and cleaning, flea and tick prevention, microchipping, parasite prevention and treatment, prescription refills, laser therapy and vaccinations.
Your pet’s clean teeth mean prevention of gingivitis, periodontal disease, and even serious internal damage to the heart and other organs from unchecked bacteria. We perform cleanings under anesthesia which enables our vet to remove harmful plaque and tartar.
If pets get lost, the chances of ever finding them are almost nil unless they have been microchipped. Inserting the microchip is a simple procedure that is basically just a shot in the pet’s shoulder area. The chip contains a code unique to your pet. If your pet is lost and then found, a shelter or veterinarian will scan him or her and the code will be matched up with your contact information and your pet will be returned to you.
Unvaccinated pets are in danger of getting very contagious and dangerous diseases such as rabies, distemper, influenza, kennel cough, and more. Vaccinations should be started when your pet is between six weeks and four months old. At first he or she will need a series of shots to build immunity followed by yearly boosters.
The surgeries we perform most frequently are the spay and neuter. We also do dewclaw removal and TPLO surgery, an orthopedic surgery to fix dogs who have torn their cranial cruciate ligament, sometimes called the canine ACL injury. All surgeries are performed at our Edmonton Animal Hospital under pet-safe anesthesia and in our surgical suite where all equipment and technology are the most modern available.
Before your pet’s surgery day, our veterinarian will go everything with you and give you any necessary pre-surgery instructions. During surgery, your pet’s vital signs will be closely monitored. After surgery, your pet will be placed in a quiet and relaxing recovery to wake up from the effects of the anesthesia. He or she will also be closely watched during this post-surgery phase. Depending on the nature of your pet’s surgery, he or she may be able to go home the same day.
